Jean de Gribaldy was one of the most colourful and influential directeurs sportifs in professional cycling, earning the nickname "Le Vicomte" for his aristocratic bearing and sharp tactical mind. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, his Hoover-sponsored squad became a proving ground for future stars, most notably Sean Kelly, whom de Gribaldy mentored from a raw Irish talent into one of the most feared classics riders of his generation. The bold tricolour palette of red, white, and blue reflected the team's French roots and its flair for punching above its weight against the sport's biggest budgets.
