The 1996 Paris-Roubaix, where Mapei riders famously crossed the line holding hands in a one-two-three finish, remains one of cycling's most celebrated and controversial images. No other team kit of that era was so instantly recognisable from the roadside or the helicopter, a burst of colour against grey Flemish skies and muddy northern pavé.
