La Vie Claire burst onto the professional peloton in the mid-1980s as one of the most visually revolutionary teams cycling had ever seen, their kit famously inspired by a Mondrian painting and bankrolled by health food magnate Bernard Tapie. Under the tactical brilliance of directeur sportif Paul Koechli, the squad delivered Bernard Hinault his fifth and final Tour de France victory in 1985, followed by Greg LeMond's landmark triumph in 1986 — the first ever by an American. This particular design pays homage to the King of the Mountains classification, blending the team's iconic color-block aesthetic with the celebrated red polka dots of the climber's jersey. The Wonder and Radar co-sponsorship marked a distinctive chapter in the team's identity, while names like Toshiba and Crédit Lyonnais evoke the grand spectacle of the Tour's commercial golden age.
