Renault–Gitane was the team that carried Bernard Hinault to legendary status, powering "The Badger" through three of his five Tour de France victories between 1978 and 1982. Backed by the French automotive giant and the iconic cigarette brand Gitane, the squad dominated stage racing in the late seventies and early eighties with a panache that defined an era.
