Renault Elf Gitane was the superteam of early 1980s French cycling, a squad that embodied Gallic flair and tactical brilliance under the guidance of the legendary directeur sportif Cyrille Guimard. It was here that a bespectacled young Parisian named Laurent Fignon burst onto the scene, stunning the cycling world with back-to-back Tour de France victories in 1983 and 1984 while wearing this iconic white jersey. The crisp white canvas adorned with the logos of Renault, Elf, and Cycles Gitane became one of the most recognisable kits in the peloton, a symbol of an era when French cycling reigned supreme. Bernard Hinault had already delivered glory in the same colours before Fignon inherited the throne, making this jersey a thread connecting two of the sport's all-time greats.
