G.B.C.-Libertas was one of the most storied Italian squads of the late 1950s and early 1960s, backed by the G.B.C. electronics company and the Libertas sporting association, and riding on the legendary steel frames built by Aldo Gios in Turin. The team's distinctive celeste-tinged blue became synonymous with elegant Italian racing, carried through the peloton by riders who contested the Giro d'Italia and the great Classic monuments with flair and tenacity. This was an era when sponsors were drawn from the fabric of everyday Italian life and cycling heroes were as celebrated as film stars, their exploits narrated breathlessly on radio and in the pink pages of La Gazzetta dello Sport.
