Wearing this striking red and white jersey, "The Cannibal" swept the Tour de France on his very first attempt, claiming six stage victories and the mountains classification along the way — a performance so commanding it left the cycling world in awe. That same year he triumphed at Milan–San Remo, Liège–Bastogne–Liège, and the Tour of Flanders, cementing his status as the most complete rider of his generation.
