Jacky Aernoudt was a Belgian hardman of the cobbles, a rider whose name became synonymous with the punishing pavé of northern France and Flanders throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. Aernoudt — he embodied the gritty, entrepreneurial spirit of Belgian cycling, where local tradesmen sponsored local heroes and entire towns rallied behind their riders on race day.
