SCIC — Società Industriale Cucine Componibili — brought the flair of Italian kitchen design to the professional peloton during the 1970s and early 1980s, sponsoring a squad that paired beautifully with the legendary Bottecchia framebuilder. The crisp black and white livery, accented by the tricolore, was a striking sight in the grupetto and became synonymous with gritty, workmanlike Italian cycling. Riders like Wladimiro Panizza wore these colours with distinction, notably finishing on the podium at the Giro d'Italia and proving that SCIC was far more than a furniture sponsor playing at bike racing. The partnership with Bottecchia — a name stretching back to the heroic era of Ottavio Bottecchia, the first Italian to win the Tour de France — lent an air of deep cycling pedigree to every start line appearance.
