Backed by French health food magnate Bernard Tapie, the team assembled a constellation of talent headlined by Bernard Hinault and a young Greg LeMond, whose dramatic rivalry and uneasy alliance at the 1986 Tour de France remains one of cycling's most compelling narratives. Hinault claimed his record-equalling fifth Tour in the kit in 1985, with LeMond loyally riding in support before seizing his own destiny the following year in one of the most emotionally charged mountain duels the sport has ever witnessed. The design itself became an instant icon — arguably the most recognizable jersey in cycling history — proving that a team kit could carry the same cultural weight as a gallery masterpiece.
