KAS was the beloved Basque cycling team that carried Spanish pride through the peloton from the 1980s into the early 1990s, their unmistakable bright yellow kits lighting up mountain stages across Europe. Backed by the KAS soft drinks company based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the team became synonymous with aggressive climbing, producing stage race contenders who thrilled fans on the brutal cols of the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. Riders like Sean Kelly, who wore the yellow of KAS during a formidable stretch of his career, and the great Spanish climber Federico Etxabe gave this jersey its legendary status.
