KAS was a Basque cycling team backed by a soft drinks company that became one of the most distinctive squads in the European peloton throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The bold diagonal red and white stripes became an unmistakable sight on mountain passes, particularly in the Vuelta a España, where KAS riders were perennial contenders on home soil. When the team merged sponsorships with Skil and Sem in the early 1980s, the jersey evolved but kept its striking graphic identity, blending Basque pride with French and international commercial flair. Sean Kelly, one of the greatest classics riders of all time, wore the Sem and Skil-Sem colours during a formative period of his career before going on to dominate the sport. This jersey captures that transitional era perfectly — a time when cycling sponsorship was shifting, but the romance of bold colour and regional loyalty still defined the peloton.
