Faema and its successor Faemino were among the most storied squads in professional cycling during the 1960s and early 1970s, backed by the Italian espresso machine manufacturer that lent its name to the peloton's finest. Under this banner, the incomparable Eddy Merckx launched his era of total dominance, claiming his first Tour de France in 1969 with Faema before the team transitioned into Faemino for the 1970 season. The bold tricolor design of black, yellow, and red paid homage to the Belgian national colors, a fitting tribute to the rider who would become cycling's greatest champion.
