Gino Bartali, the legendary "Man of Iron," rode under the Ursus banner during the early 1950s, a period that crowned an already extraordinary career spanning two decades of professional cycling. Bartali's rivalry with Fausto Coppi defined an era and divided all of Italy into two passionate camps, yet it was his miraculous 1948 Tour de France victory — ten years after his first — that cemented his place among the immortals. The striking yellow and blue livery of the Ursus squad carried Bartali through his final glorious seasons, a vivid combination that stood out in the peloton like a burst of Tuscan sunshine. Beyond his palmares, Bartali was later revealed to have secretly saved hundreds of Jewish lives during World War II by smuggling forged identity documents hidden in his bicycle frame.
