La Vie Claire burst onto the professional peloton in 1984, bankrolled by maverick businessman Bernard Tapie, and immediately turned heads with a kit that looked like nothing cycling had ever seen. Designed by fashion house Look and inspired by the bold geometric paintings of Piet Mondrian, the jersey transformed riders like Bernard Hinault and Greg LeMond into moving works of modern art. It was in this iconic kit that Hinault claimed his fifth and final Tour de France in 1985, while his young American teammate LeMond simmered with ambition that would famously boil over the following year. The dramatic rivalry between the two La Vie Claire leaders across those Tours remains one of the sport's greatest narratives, played out in vivid blocks of red, blue, and yellow against the mountain passes of France.
